CHANGE IT UP!

How often is too often to change your décor?
How long is too long to keep the same décor?
I believe these are the questions every self-proclaimed home décor guru or college degreed home designer asks themselves. I am not sure that either question can be answered with one simple answer. It is up to the individual. In the long run, it is really up to your budget, your style, and your saneness. Yes, saneness………, I went there.
A wise friend once quoted me this, “Familiarity breeds Contempt”. How very true this is. I believe she was referring to relationships, at the time. Which is so very true also regarding marriages and friendships. But why can’t it also pertain to home décor? It is our God given human nature to be creative, explore change, and expand our horizons. We possess the desire to “switch things up” from time to time. When doing so, it seems to lift our spirits and motivates us even more. Just as the changing of the seasons can bring feelings of excitement and anticipation, so can the “changing of the décor”.
Budget can play a role in how often you decide to change things up. Keep in mind, there are always thrifty ways to bring some revision to your décor. You could shop your local Goodwill or thrift shops, yard sales, or online resale sites. You could repurpose an item you find laying around. And my personal favorite, you could take a piece of furniture that you have had, and create an entire new design with the simple technique of CHIPPY PAINTING! ( fyi, this works with photo frames, lamps, shelves, just about anything!)
So, remember there is no right answer as to how often or not to change your décor. It is an individual preference. No pressure from anyone. Find what works for you and ultimately, brings you peace. When you feel yourself getting familiar, get creative. Create those feelings of excitement and anticipation for yourself, before the contempt creeps in. In doing so, you will be uplifted and encouraged. And while you are at it, it couldn’t hurt to do the same with the relationships in your life also. Who knows, you may even uplift and encourage others around you too!
Blessings,
